5 Common Branding Myths Debunked

Building a brand is one of the most strategically important things business owners can do.

However, there are plenty of misconceptions out there about branding and the impact it has on businesses.

Here are five common myths about branding that you should be aware of and why I am debunking them for their inaccuracies.

🙅🏾‍♀️ Branding Myth #1: A Brand is a Logo

While a logo is an important symbolic representation of your brand, it is only a small part of the whole. A brand is what people think, feel, and believe about your product or company. It’s their perception.

🙅🏾‍♀️ Branding Myth #2: Branding Isn't Necessary

A strong brand will help you have an authentic story that galvanizes your audiences to buy into who you are and what you do. A strong brand will help your business stand out, generate customer loyalty, and command premium prices.

🙅🏾‍♀️ Branding Myth #3:

Once the brand is highly successful, then it can figure out what it stands for. Branding is the foundation on which your company’s unique values and beliefs are built. It defines why your customers or prospect should choose your business over your
competitor and it sets an expectation of value in their minds.

🙅🏾‍♀️ Branding Myth #4: A brand can get bigger if they try to target the largest possible audience

“If you try to be all things to all people, you won’t be anything to anybody.” 45-year-old Ohioan women’s pain points are different from 17-year-old Californian males. A business with a strong brand will have clarity about who their ideal customers are, their pain points, challenges, desires, etc., so they know how best to solve their specific problems.

🙅🏾‍♀️ Branding Myth #5: Branding and Marketing are the same things

Many make the mistake of using these terms interchangeably, but they are different things. BRANDING is the actions you take to influence people’s PERCEPTION of your product or service. MARKETING is the actions you take to influence people to BUY your product or service. I hope you found these branding myth busters helpful.
